[VIDEO] StudioPress Genesis & Child theme update

StudioPress Genesis I started putting together a little slide show of the new child themes available from StudioPress (these have to be used with the Genesis theme framework…which is fabulous!) and realized that if I delay it any longer I’m going to have to go back and add a bunch more screenshots because the child themes are coming out faster than I can keep up with! I’ve had a chance to work with about half of the new child themes and absolutely LOVE them!

In case you didn’t see my crazy, hyper video about Genesis and how the child themes work- you can view that here (although I’m sure I need to update that video now too. I believe Genesis is on it’s third update already). But the best way to explain what a child theme is and how it works with the theme framework is to use the explanation StudioPress gave when they were bringing Genesis to the theme marketplace.

Basically Genesis is like the engine of the car and the child theme is the paint job. Everything about how your site/blog runs is dictated by the theme framework. Everything that has to do with the way your site/blog LOOKS is run by the child theme. Make sense?

I’ve had a ball playing with the child themes that I’ve worked with. StudioPress has integrated some new plugins that I hadn’t worked with before such as the Dynamic Content Gallery which takes the place of the Featured Content Gallery used in their older themes or WP-Cycle which is similar to both of the gallery plugins but works a little different (VERY easy to use!).

And the MAIN reason I love these themes is that the homepage is widgetized!!!! It is SO easy to change what shows up where…..oh, and let’s not forget that you can change your page layout per page OR per post! As soon as the magazine theme comes out I’ll be swapping this site over to Genesis! Can’t wait!

*Quick Note* Some of the slides will have the name of the theme and ‘Child Theme’ in the title as well. All of these themes are child themes, but the ones that are labeled as such are updated ‘classic’ StudioPress themes (there were originally not child themes and did not run on Genesis).

Here’s the slide show…enjoy!
